Dental Bridges

What are dental bridges?

A dental bridge fills the gaps made by missing teeth and restores an even, full smile. A dental bridge has natural-looking false teeth that replace your missing teeth. The false teeth used in a dental bridge are made out of porcelain so that they are long-lasting and look more natural. The individual teeth of a dental bridge are held together through a retainer or metal bar. Dental bridges are specifically customized to fit perfectly with your smile.

What types of dental bridges do you offer?

There are 3 main types of dental bridges that we offer at Classi Cosmetic & Implant Dentist of NYC. To best match your smile, Dr. Classi can help you decide which dental bridge technique is best for your individual needs and goals. The 3 dental bridges that we offer include traditional dental bridges, resin-bonded bridges, and cantilever bridges.

Traditional Dental Bridges:

The most common dental bridge type, traditional dental bridges consist of 1 or more false teeth that are held in place by crowns, also known as abutments. These crowns are carefully cemented onto the teeth adjacent to where your dental bridge is being placed. Traditional bridges can only be offered if you have naturally-occurring teeth on either side of your missing teeth. Traditional bridges can even be used to replace missing or damaged molars. To place the dental crowns on your teeth that are adjacent to your missing teeth, Dr. Classi will have to safely prepare these teeth to securely hold abutments. These teeth will remain healthy, as they are safely protected by the dental crowns.

Resin-Bonded Bridges:

Resin-bonded bridges, also commonly referred to as Maryland-bonded bridges or simply a resin bridge, are comprised of porcelain teeth that are reinforced by a porcelain framework. Resin-bonded bridges can replace 1 missing tooth. These dental bridges consist of porcelain wings on either side of the false tooth, which will be cemented and securely fastened to your neighboring teeth. The wings of this tooth will act as clasps and securely anchor your false tooth in place. Resin-bonded bridges do not use crowns, so Dr. Classi does not have to remove the enamel of the surrounding teeth.

Cantilever Bridges:

Cantilever bridges are similar to traditional dental bridges in that they require support from a dental crown placed on an adjacent tooth. Unlike traditional dental bridges, cantilever bridges only require 1 anchor crown to be placed for a secure fit. This means that cantilever bridges are recommended for patients who have missing teeth and only 1 natural tooth adjacent to the missing teeth. Just as with traditional bridges, Dr. Classi will have to prepare your adjacent tooth to receive and support the crown that will securely fasten your dental bridge.

What are the benefits of dental bridges?

Dental bridges are a cost-effective treatment for missing tooth or teeth and can help you restore your smile without dental surgery. Dental bridges are often used for patients looking for a noninvasive missing tooth treatment that can provide natural-looking results without the discomfort or downtime associated with traditional surgery. Dr. Classi is able to customize the false teeth of your dental bridge to look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth.

What can I expect from a dental bridge procedure in NYC?

Prior to your dental bridge procedure, Dr. Classi will begin by determining your specific needs and what type of dental bridge will help you achieve a glowing smile. A dental bridge treatment is usually split into multiple visits to our dental office. After determining what dental bridge is best suited to treat your specific needs, Dr. Classi will begin to prepare your teeth to receive a dental bridge. Any tooth that will have a crown placed on it will be reshaped and properly prepared.

After your teeth have been properly prepared to receive a crown, Dr. Classi will take a digital impression of your teeth using a digital intraoral scanner. This impression can be used to create a customized dental bridge that will fit comfortably into your mouth. A temporary dental bridge may be placed while your permanent dental bridge is being prepared. One of the final steps of a dental bridge procedure is to securely cement your permanent dental bridge into place for a full smile.

What can I expect after a dental bridge procedure?

Following your dental bridge procedure, you will be able to enjoy food again as normal. Dental bridges are a long-lasting and cost-effective tooth replacement option. It is very important to maintain good dental hygiene, including flossing and brushing regularly to reduce the chance of cavities developing. Additionally, routine dental exams with Dr. Classi can help detect the first signs of a cavity or complication so that it can be corrected immediately.

Can Dr. Classi replace my current dental bridge?

If your current dental bridge is uncomfortable, ineffective, or breaking, Dr. Classi can help design a new dental bridge for you using state-of-the-art dental technology. Dr. Classi prioritizes natural-looking results with stable, comfortable, and long-lasting dental bridges. If you have received a dental bridge from a less skilled prosthodontist, Dr. Classi can help you achieve a full smile with a dental bridge.
